What Does the Name LPM Advisors Mean?

After publicly launching LPM Advisors last week, many peers and colleagues have reached out to congratulate me and learn more about the company. The most common question is, “How did you come up with the name LPM Advisors?” The LPM part is easy. It’s the names of our three kids: Layla, Peter, and Madalyn. The “Advisor” part is more nuanced and intentional.

The Power of Perspective: Why the “Advisor” in LPM Advisors Matters

When I chose the word “Advisor” for our name, it wasn’t just a title—it was a commitment. I wanted to make it clear that we’re not just another consulting firm. We’re here to be something more: a steady hand, a clear voice, and a trusted partner. In an industry that often moves fast and reacts faster, we slow down just enough to see the full picture—and help others do the same.

The Origin of the Word “Advisor”

The word advisor comes from the Latin advisare, meaning “to consider” or “to look at.” That origin speaks volumes. Being an advisor isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about taking the time to understand the question. Historically, advisors were the ones leaders turned to for wisdom, not comfort. They were valued for their ability to see beyond the moment and speak the truth, even when it was hard to hear.

What It Means to Be a Trusted Advisor

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of advising Owners, Design Professionals, and Contractors. That trust didn’t come from telling people what they wanted to hear—it came from telling them what they needed to hear, with honesty and respect.

  • To me, being a trusted advisor means:
  • Speaking the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable. I believe that candor, delivered with care, builds stronger teams and better outcomes.
  • Zooming out to see the whole. I don’t just look at one stakeholder’s needs, I consider the entire project ecosystem and what’s best for everyone involved.
  • Balancing empathy with clarity. I listen deeply, but I also challenge assumptions. My role is to guide, not to appease.

How LPM Embodies the Role of Advisor

At LPM, this philosophy is at the heart of everything we do. We don’t just manage projects—we help people make better decisions. Our clients count on us not just for our technical expertise, but for our ability to bring clarity to complexity.

Whether we’re helping resolve a design conflict, aligning stakeholders, or planning the next phase of a build, we approach every challenge with the same mindset: lead with integrity, advise with insight, and always keep the bigger picture in view.

Final Thoughts

In this industry, advice is easy to come by—but trusted advisors are rare. At LPM, we’re proud to be that rare partner. We’re here to help you see clearly, act confidently, and build something that lasts.
